6. Work Record 7

Work Record 7

Location - Hurst Spit, Lymington

Distortion method - Crystal ball

My Plan for Shoot 7 -

My plan for this shoot, I would like to capture the sun on the beach and across the ocean, whilst using the crystal ball. The weather for this shoot is forecast to be sunny.

Research influence -

As with the other crystal ball shoots, my influenece for this was Stefan lens.

My best images -

Images that require improvement -

Although these are nice images, when I edit the images I would like to straighten them up, as the camera is slightly downhill.

AO3 - Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

In this shoot I decided to incorporate the use of rocks and wood to hold the crystal ball, instead of using a hand. I think that with editing, some of these pictures will be very good, however some will need more refining than others.

AO2 - Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

To take my photos I used a Canon E10 1000D, with multiple lenses.

Lens: EF-S18-55mm F/3.5-5.6

AO1 - Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

The research that I did for this shoot was very helpful. I looked at individual beach photos, some of which included the rock stacks. I think that the ball on top of the rock stack is a very powerful image due to the distortion through the ball being so clear.

AO4 - Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

I think that this shoot was very successful and I am happy with the final outcomes.

6. Work Record 6

Work Record 6

Location - Sandown, Isle of Wight

Distortion method - Mirror

My Plan for Shoot 6 -

In this shoot, I plan on experimenting with a curved mirror. I want to see what effect this has on my images and what it is different between the effect of the curved mirror compared to the rounded mirror.

Research influence -

My research influence for this shoot would be Sebastian Magnani. His work really inspires me and his final images look simple, but great.

Sadly, I do not feel as if there is any images that are good enough The weather was not the best, strong winds and rain made the mirror very hard to stand up. the Strong winds even snapped the mirror in half. du to this the photographs are rushed and I don't think that this is a true reflection of my photography skills

AO2 - Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

If I were to redo this shoot, I would plan on using a smaller, stronger mirror. I would also try and shoot on a sunnier, stiller day, as the weather that we encountered on this shoot was not very helpful.

AO1 - Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

I think that the research on the photographers and other research that I did was helpful as it gave me the idea of experimenting with the different mirrors. Although this shoot did not work out the way in which I wanted, I am happy that I did it because it taught me that I need to pick and choose what days I am going to shoot and that if the weather is not perfect, then reschedule the shoot.

6. Work Record 5

Work Record 5

Location - Shanklin, Isle of Wight

Distortion method - Crystal ball

My Plan for Shoot 6 -

For this shoot, my plan is to use the beach setting in order to create some new ideas with using the crystal ball. i would like to experiment with what the ball looks like in at the edges of the waves along with trying to capture any beach huts or groynes within the ball.

Research influence -

The research influence for thus shoot was mainly Stefan kens as well as the other photographers in which we included in my image bank. They all gave me different ideas on how to best place the ball in order to capture the best images.

My best images -

Images that require improvement -

I feel that the focus is wrong in this image, as it is on the seaweed instead of the crystal ball. for me, this is not a pleasing image.

I like this image, however if I were to retake, I would get closer to the object.

Personally, I think that although this image is nice in terms of its composition and shot settings, however I feel it is a little boring.

AO3 - Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

I feel that out of all of my shoots so far, the amount of outcomes that I am happy with of this shoot has been one of my best.

AO2 - Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

To take my photos I used a Canon E10 1000D, with multiple lenses.

AO1 - Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

In shoot 5, I was more influenced by the ideas from the image bank rather than an individual photographer.

AO4 - Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

6. Work Record 4

Work Record 4

Location - Bonchurch, Isle of Wight

Distortion method - Crystal ball

My Plan for Shoot 4 -

In this shoot, I hope to try and capture crashing waves from within the crystal ball. I will use the tripod in order to try and create a steadier and clearer image.

Research influence -

My influence for this shoot, was once again, Stefan Lens. I am intrigued by his methods for photography and would like to further explore and improve my work.

Images that require improvement -

This image is far too bright. The shutter speed needs to be slower.

Although I like this photo, the focus is correct and an interesting distortion is formed from within the ball. I feel like this image as well as the image below would look better if it were zoomed in more, trimming out the fingers that are not holding the ball.

AO3 - Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

Over all, I am not particularly happy with the outcome of this shoot. At the time when these photographs were taken, early morning, the light was not the best.

I do not think however that this shoot was a total waste of time and although this is only a small shoot, I feel that I got at least two decent pictures in which I can put into Photoshop and enhance.

I feel that in general, although maybe not particularly shown through this shoot, my work whilst using the crystal ball is improving. I feel more at ease whilst using both the camera and the crystal ball and am becoming better at spotting the finer details when it comes to the composition and editing of the images.

AO2 - Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

Here I have used, dodging and burning, Selective colouring and Curves in order to edit this image. I like the final outcome as it looks slightly moody and stormy.

AO1 - Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

The photographers research in which I used whilst exploring circles and curves is proving to help in some way, big or small, in all of my shoots so far.

AO4 - Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and, where appropriate, makes connections between visual and other elements.

Progression -

In all future shoots I hope to improve more and more on my editing skills, as I feel as though this is one of my weaker areas. All of my photos are now shot in RAW which I feel allows me to have more control over the editing process. after switching from shooting in JPEG to Raw I felt that my final images were improving.
